The event, dubbed “The Clearwater Concert: Creating the Next Generation of Environmental Leaders,” will raise funds and awareness for Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, an environmental organization founded by Seeger in the 1960s to preserve and protect the Hudson River.

Other artists scheduled to appear include Steve Earle, Joan Baez, Juanes, Richie Havens, Kris Kirstofferson, Tom Morello, Billy Bragg, Michael Franti and Ben Harper.

Celebrations honoring Seeger’s musical legacy and social activism will go on throughout the year. The Madison Square Garden birthday concert is part of a series of 90th birthday events benefiting Clearwater, which is also marking its 40th anniversary.

Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy will play a rare acoustic solo set at Clearwater’s annual “Spring Splash” fundraiser in Beacon, N.Y., on March 28. Tweedy and Seeger will perform together at the sold-out event.

Blues singer Susan Tedeschi, folk hero Arlo Guthrie, “newgrass” sensations Old Crow Medicine Show and Alejandro Escovedo are some of the artists headlining the annual Clearwater Festival in Croton, N.Y., on June 20-21. The Persuasions, indie favorites Dr. Dog and Elvis Perkins in Dearland, New Pornographers frontman A.C. Newman, and Allison Moorer are among the dozens of other performers announced Wednesday on the festival’s website (http://www.clearwater.org/festival/performers.html).

Seeger will be performing numerous times during the two-day festival, and his grandson (and frequent collaborator) Tao Rodriguez-Seeger will also play a set with his band.

All of the money raised at the events support Clearwater’s environmental research, education and advocacy efforts to help preserve and protect the Hudson River.

On March 28, Prince is scheduled to perform three full-length concerts at Los Angeles’ $2.5 billion L.A. Live sports and entertainment complex. Doors for the first show, at Nokia Theater L.A. Live will open at 5:30 p.m.; doors at the Conga Room open at 8 p.m.; and doors at Club Nokia will open at 11:30 p.m.

Fans will be required to purchase separate tickets for each concert. Tickets go on sale March 22 via ticketmaster.com and lotusflow3r.com for $77 (plus additional fees).

“The Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009″ kicks off June 20 in Dallas, hitting arenas and stadiums across North America before the August 31 finale in Ottawa, Ontario. The platinum-selling trio will make several detours to select Canadian cities throughout the trek. The full itinerary is below.

DMB tours in support of their yet-to-be titled next studio album, slated for release by RCA records on June 2nd. Plans are currently being finalized for the European tour from late June through early July with more dates to be announced next week.

Tickets may be requested by members of the Warehouse, the official Dave Matthews Band fan association, beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, February 19, 2009 through 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, March 2, 2009. The only public sale start dates announced so far are in mid-March so we expect presales to happen in a couple of weeks. Warehouse ticket limits vary by show and venue between 2 or 4 tickets. The Warehouse ticketing request period is not first-come, first serve, requests may be entered at any time during the open ticketing period. Warehouse confirmations will be issued by the evening prior to public on sales.

Clapton has been reconnecting with former bandmates recently. He hooked up with Cream a few years back for a successful string of concerts, then reunited with Winwood last year — and next he’ll share the stage with fellow Yardbird Jeff Beck for a pair of concerts in Japan on February 21st and 22nd.

Live Nation and former client Ticketmaster are reportedly close to merging, according to the Wall Street Journal, a move that could rock the foundation of what fans see, where they see it and when.

As the world’s largest concert promoter, Live Nation has access to hundreds of music artists, and in the past year has begun to sign some major acts to all-encompassing deals, which includes concerts, recording, merchandising and licensing. And last month, the company launched its own, highly touted ticketing operation, which suffered some computer glitches in its first big test last week with ticket onsales for the upcoming Phish tour. Live Nation created the ticketing operation with the help of German company CTS Eventim.

Didn’t get enough Bruce Springsteen at the Super Bowl halftime show? You’ll have another opportunity to catch him and the E Street Band at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, the four-day music shindig in Manchester, Tenn., which announced its 2009 lineup. Among more than 120 other acts performing at the festival, which this year runs June 11 through 14, are the Beastie Boys, Nine Inch Nails, TV on the Radio and the newly reunited Phish. They’ll also be joined by Wilco, David Byrne, Snoop Dogg, Merle Haggard, Animal Collective and many, many more. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale at bonnaroo.com on Saturday at noon.
